The annual Philippine Fiesta in Melbourne was held on 28-29 November at the Exhibition Buildings in Carlton, a great venue for any kind of event especially one with all the colour and excitement of a Filipino community festival. Thousands of people flocked through the doors over the two days to watch performances, hear great music, experience “Gabi ng Sining” and enjoy great food, fun and festivities.
This year for the first time the APBC joined with the Philippines Fiesta Victoria and created the first ever business and trade expo. The expo was very much integrated into the Fiesta and featured a wide range of businesses in property (Atlas Property, Megaworld and others), airlines (PAL and Royal Brunei), travel (Philippines Tours and West Travel) , international money transfer companies, management consulting, and community organisations. One of the major sponsors for the event, Black Swan Foods, introduced their new range of fabulous produce to the assembled throngs and enjoyed great success over the event. Their new Filipino parent company is looking to expand the business into the Philippines in the coming year. APBC will be right there to assist in every way it can.
The APBC also was an exhibitor at the event along with Mannerim Capital, the company lead by APBC VP for Victoria Neil Grimes. Neil reports that the event was a good start in promoting business links and trade in the Filipino community.
“This was a first time effort and whilst we had some good success, a better effort will be mounted for next year and we encourage all our APBC members around Australia to consider being part of this great event,” he said. A number of companies made approaches about memberships and Neil was happy to introduce them to what the APBC can offer. Stay tuned early next year for more information on how you can be part of the Fiesta and Expo in 2016.
