Given the shortage in global supply of critical goods in the fight against COVID 19 and export bans imposed by partner-countries, a network of government and private sector groups in the Philippines have embarked on initiatives to re-purpose manufacturing from serving export markets to fulfilling domestic needs.

Spearheaded by the DTI and the Board of Investments (BOI), and comprised of all its agencies, government partners, universities, and multinational manufacturers and corporates based in the Philippines, manufacturing operations are pivoting from their core operations to supply the requirements of health workers and the general public. Medtech and hygiene product manufacturers are building capacity to produce medical grade face masks; garments and wearable exporters are producing protective medical suits; electronics and aerospace multinationals are testing prototype ventilators; and local conglomerates Destileria Limtuaco and San Miguel Corporation are producing ethyl and rubbing alcohol for donation purposes.
